PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To perform appliance service, including repair and installation of appliances and other related functions to support gas distribution and service operations in a safe, customer-oriented manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Repair and adjust residential, commercial and industrial appliances and equipment to ensure efficient operation.
  • Install appliance (including heating and air conditioning equipment and water heaters), meters, regulators and control systems to comply with code specifications.
  • Locate and repair gas leaks at customer’s premises to assure safe delivery of natural gas.
  • Check and repair or replace gas meters and regulators to assure accurate registration of gas usage and continuous service to customers.
  • Complete recordkeeping associated with service and repair functions to ensure an accurate information system is maintained.
  • Operate company vehicle and maintains parts inventory and tools according to company standard and policies to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient service.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform other related tasks as apparent or assigned, including but not limited to leak survey work, line locating, foreign construction work, storekeeping, meter reading, chart changing, transporting appliances and equipment, and fleet and facilities maintenance to ensure efficient operation of the work unit.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Locate and mark facilities per Company Damage Prevention Program and One-Call procedures prior to and during encroachments and excavations.
  • Perform pipeline patrols, population density surveys, leak detection surveys and inspection per company procedures.
  • Coordinate local Damage Prevention activities.
  • Provide oversight and inspection to ensure asset protection and compliance with company procedures of excavation activities near pipeline facilities.
  • Participates in quality emergency responder programs.
  • Represent the Company during contacts with landowner/tenant, public official, emergency official and local organization (i.e. One-Call, Pipeline Group, Soil Conservation, etc.) meetings.
  • Perform governmental compliance activities (PHMSA, State Agencies, EPA, USFS, etc.)

  • Participate in the development of O&M Procedures, Site Specific Procedures, project scopes and work plans.

  • Operate leak detection equipment utilized to conduct gas leak surveys and observes the physical conditions of the surroundings to detect and locate leaks in the gas distribution system.
  • Attach anodes and test point wires to metallic pipes by thermite welding process; including the use of hand tools to work through auger holes and the use of pipe locators to locate underground facilities.
  • Perform testing of defective cathodic protection systems to determine the cause of the problem and recommend or perform corrective work as needed including appropriate documentation with specified repair instructions.
  • Perform electrical readings and surveys of the cathodic protection system installed on the gas distribution system to ensure timely, accurate completion of all annual requirements.
  • Assist in preparation of drawings, job specifications and documents for construction planning.
