POSITION PURPOSE: The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is seeking an experienced machinist to provide machining and fabrication support for the Mechanical Engineering manufacturing lab. Duties include machining; welding and sheet metal fabrication; equipment and facility maintenance; diagnose and repair electrical problems for manufacturing, laboratory, and measurement equipment; and other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have experience with manual machining and turning; CNC machining and turning programming, setup and operation; surface grinding; welding operations including MIG, TIG and oxyacetylene; cutting processes including oxyacetylene, plasma and CNC plasma; maintenance of manufacturing equipment, laboratory equipment and measurement equipment; electrical diagnostics and repair.
A successful candidate must possess a valid South Dakota driver’s license; possess the ability to interpret detail piece part and assembly drawings; be comfortable teaching and interacting with college age students of various ethnic, religious, social and cultural backgrounds; possess a willingness to share knowledge; possess a desire to be methodical, precise and accurate; possess an aptitude for mechanical devices and systems; be self-motivated and be a team player with a positive attitude.
