Pacer Corporation- Packaging (Custer, SD)

Job purpose                 


The packaging department is responsible for preparing orders for shipment in a neat, orderly, precise, and timely fashion.  This is a phPysically demanding position which requires you to be both physically fit and hardworking.  It is very important that new or potential problems be recognized and properly communicated.  This position requires attention to detail, good teamwork skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, good organizational skills, effective time management, and physical stamina.


Duties and responsibilities
  • Report and or correct all hazardous conditions
  • Ensure that orders are prepared within Pacer tolerances and per customer specifications
  • Monitor and maintain consistent bag weights
  • Collect samples for final inspection quality control
  • Load customer trucks in a courteous and timely manner
  • Monitor and asses the operating condition of the equipment and report or correct any current or pending problems
  • Ensure that critical equipment is properly lubricated at correct intervals
  • Ensure that the bag room, warehouse, loading area, mill and surrounding area is kept clean and orderly
  • Conduct and record inventory reviews of packaging supplies and materials
  • Assist co-workers with their assigned duties whenever possible
  • Any other duties assigned


  • MSHA Safety training, monthly reviews, annual refresher
  • ISO training
  • Biannual first aid and CPR certification
  • On the job task training
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Must be able to read, write, and perform basic math
  • Must be physically sound


Working conditions
  • Subject to weather both hot and cold
  • Three stories of stairs, catwalks, and ladders with multiple low clearance areas
  • Uneven terrain
  • Loud equipment
  • Dusty conditions
  • Frequent exposure to grease, oil, and mud


Physical requirements
  • Must have the physical stamina to pick up and carry 50 pound bags for the duration of a 10 hour shift
  • Must be able to move wheelbarrows weighing up to 600 pounds over rough terrain
  • Must be able to sweep and shovel unconsolidated ore for extended periods
  • Must be able to work in awkward positions for extended periods
  • Must be able to perform all of the aforementioned in inclement weather conditions


Direct reports


The packaging department reports directly to the plant supervisor at all times and frequently to the maintenance department.
