PAY RANGE:    $23 – $35 per hour (DOQ)

CLOSING DATE:   This position will close on May 12, 2016.

LOCATION:    Monument, CO

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Provide leadership in safety and training for employees performing corrosion and leak detection functions. Make major repairs and adjustments on electronic and mechanical equipment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:    Field Operations Supervisor

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform corrosion testing of cathodic protection systems both internal/external on steel piping.
  • Correct issues found when performing testing.
  • Conduct gas leak surveys to and observe the physical conditions of surroundings.
  • Attach anodes and test point wires to metallic pipes.
  • Take electrical readings and surveys for cathodic protection on the gas distribution system.
  • Make major repairs and adjustments on electronic equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.
  • Complete and maintain all records associated with corrosion activities.
  • Prepare drawings, job specifications and documents for construction planning.
  • Monitor the pipeline condition – pipe to soil potentials, visual inspections, examining steel coupons, data, etc.
  • Provide work direction to leak technicians to ensure timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Perform annual pipe to soil surveys.
  • Complete rectifier readings and troubleshooting rectifier units.
  • Perform interference testing.
  • Recommend, design and install (or oversee installation) of needed cathodic facilities within the system.
  • Inspect 3rd party construction activities.
  • Read and maintain literature library, attend seminars, training on new equipment and technological applications to maintain and apply technical skill knowledge.
  • Follow and promote safety company safety policies and support training procedures for safe work and driving habits to ensure customer and employee safety.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all annual requirements.
  • Contribute to regulated and non-regulated company marketing programs.
  • Participate and/or lead training related to cathodic protection and leak surveys.
  • Provide technical support on distribution systems related to corrosion control and pipeline integrity.
  • Active community support and involvement.
  • Perform other related tasks as apparent or assigned.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Internal and external customers.
  • Leaders and coworkers throughout the state.
  • State commission agency, federal governing bodies, fire departments and town officials.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years of Cathodic Protection experience required or a combination of education and relevant experience required.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associates degree in electrical applications, electronics, or corrosion technology preferred.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Basic math skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to learn specialized software.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience with training in a classroom setting helpful.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and utilize complex instrumentation devices.
  • Working knowledge of environmental and safety aspects of coating projects helpful.

SKILLS/ABILITY/OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required job schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to schedule and coordinate work activity.
  • Must be able to read and accurately interpret detailed colored maps and record.
  • Must be able to work independently and handle stressful situations.
  • Good analytical abilities necessary.
  • Must achieve and maintain all operator qualifications requirements applicable to the job.
  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required job schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

CERTIFICATION CREDENTIALS:

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must have and maintain a National Association Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Technician certification.
  • Must successfully pass an extensive drug screen and background check.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extensive travel including periodic overnight stays.
  • Employees assigned to this job will be expected to establish residence in the service territory no later than 90 days after accepting the job.
  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions.
  • Required to carry a company provided cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • Scheduled on-call rotation to include weekend and holidays.
