Position Overview:

Provide legendary customer service experience to for every customer by safely handling food and adhere to state, federal and company food service regulations.  This position is responsible for supporting the manager in developing a cohesive team and ensuring the proper responsibilities of the associates’ duties.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in the delegation of work, determining the method of work, giving clear and concise direction, and follow up to ensure proper execution.  Assist customers in selection and preparation of order.  To provide a legendary customer experience for every customer.   Assist in ensuring proper ordering of food, rotation, sets par levels for prep and inventory. Ensure food production is prepared correctly, weights, and quality is to industry and company standard.  Assist in coordinating banquet buffet for conference room functions to ensure customer satisfaction and food quality.
  • Fosters growth and development of retail Outfitters by supporting training initiatives.
  • Deli/Banquet up-keep and maintenance to include, but not limited to restocking, remerchandising, dusting, scrubbing, polishing counters, tables, and other kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and deli visual presentation standards are met.
  • Assist manager in motivating fellow Outfitters, keeping them engaged and working as a cohesive team.
  • Respond and handle customer issues by using good judgment and logic in solving problems and making decisions within the job scope.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 0 to 2+ Years Experience
  • Must have the ability to sell and evaluate the customers’ needs (required)
  • Ability to use good judgment and logic (required)
  • Ability to provide superior customer service and exceed customer’s expectations (required)

  • Hiring preference is given to those with solid knowledge of the food service industry and at least six months to one year of supervisory experience and the food service industry.

The SDSU Plant Science Department is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Extension Associate in Horticulture at our SDSU Extension Regional Center in Rapid City, South Dakota. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join our Healthy Communities Team in gardening and nutrition projects in Rapid City and seven South Dakota Reservations and other target communities. This is a grant-funded, full-time position. This position is supervised by Shawn Burke, SDSU Extension Native American Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The incumbent will help plan and implement gardening education programs for home gardeners and new commercial growers in target communities in our Health Food, Families and Communities initiative. Periodic travel to reservation communities in western South Dakota will be required with occasional evening and weekend programs as well. A state car is provided. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Education, Business, Human Services or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in horticulture including but not limited to: home gardening; commercial greenhouse; and market horticultural enterprises in the temperate zone.
  • Experience in teaching and/or training diverse groups.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective computer skills, including basic word processing, e-mail, and basic spreadsheets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as a contributing team member.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with commercial vegetable production and other production systems.
  • Experience working on a Native American Reservation.
  • Demonstrated experience developing programs and training new and intermediate growers.
  • Experience operating a horticultural business.

Education:  Associate degree in Graphic Design or related discipline is acceptable; however, practical demonstration of knowledge, skills, and abilities is preferable.

Training and Experience:  Minimum three (3) years of full-time work in a team environment.  Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Microsoft PowerPoint; demonstrated adequate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Quark, and any scanning software.

General Skills:  Must possess excellent oral, written, and visual communication; handle multiple tasks; flexible with work assignments; work well with a multitude of personalities; work with little to no supervision.  Must possess a creative approach to problem-solving; be detail-oriented; ability to meet deadlines. 

Technical Skills:  Proficient in photography of people (for employee badges), large items (sections of a jet exterior), and minute items (readings on a meter). Ability to scan over-sized items and composite them in Photoshop; re-create line-drawings/technical drawings in Illustrator; create simple animations in Flash; adjust photos as needed, or re-create them if required; can navigate a computer network as needed to obtain and/or deliver graphics.

Physical Requirements:  Normal color vision (i.e., cannot be color blind); physical ability to traverse the flight line, climb into a jet, and contort oneself in order to photograph equipment.

Computer Skills:  Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat and Quark.

Security Clearance:  Must be able to obtain/maintain a “Secret” security clearance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create all graphics required for delivering the curriculum.       Includes adjusting photographs, creating photo-like images from line-drawings and/or poor-quality photographs, and re-creating line drawings.
  • Must determine optimal file format and resolution for final delivery (e.g., know not to send a high-resolution JPG for a PowerPoint presentation; know when a WMF is preferable over a raster image of the same drawing).
  • Work as a team with Education Technologists (ET) and/or Subject Matter Experts (SME) and/or Instructor CW/SME to create graphics utilized in academic courseware.
  • Maintain the work station and shared Graphics Library to the extent that the candidate is primarily responsible for storage and retrieval of all photos and graphics for this contract.
  • Assist, as needed, ETs, Instructor CW/SME in creating Student Study Guides and Course Instructor Guides from existing PowerPoint presentations and attendant notes.
  • Scan items (photos, pages from manuals, etc.) and adjust as needed.
