We are seeking a Transportation Account Specialist to support our Export Operations team in our Jericho, NY office.  Supporting our Midwest and East Coast sales, freight forwarders, suppliers, and documentation teams, the Transportation Account Specialist provides up to date shipment information while maintaining compliance with all export regulations. New employees have the opportunity to gain various skills that will allow them to advance into roles with increased responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate competing demands to determine order of priority and communicate estimated timelines to customers
  • Work with 50+ suppliers, sales representatives, traders, and shippers to provide timely delivery and meet customer demands
  • Negotiate freight rates and shipment times with approved intermodal carriers
  • Dispatch notifications to suppliers and intermodal carriers
  • Evaluate shipments and file appropriate permitting documentation before assigned deadlines
  • Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and terminals to resolve issues with shipments, ensuring timely pick-ups and transfers
  • Ensure customers receive timely verbal and written updates of shipment details and proactively communicate any delays
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline efficiency and suggest process improvements as appropriate
  • Support our goal of zero compliance violations while identifying additional controls to further reduce risk of non-compliance
Basic Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in logistics or shipping
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with import and export scheduling, planning, customer service, or logistics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Supply Chain
  • Knowledge of export logistics terminology (Vessel Bookings / INCO terms)
 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Well-organized and able to accommodate shifting priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to apply critical and economic thinking in negotiations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with sales, operations, management, and customers to ensure prioritization and timeliness of all orders
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively with other employees and customers and at multiple levels of an organization
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work with competing demands
