Black Hills Corp- Pumper II (Newcastle, WY)

Job Title: Pumper II  (30098)

Job Description:

PAY RANGE:   $22 – $34 per hour (DOQ)

LOCATION:   Newcastle, WY

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Ensure optimum production rates and safe equipment function on BHEP’s operated wells.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:    Production Foreman

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform operational check on all assigned wells and related production equipment and facilities daily, if possible.
    • Perform lubrication and adjustment duties for all assigned oil field equipment.
    • Detect problems, potential problems and damage to equipment and assigned vehicle. Perform repairs on oilfield equipment as appropriate. If necessary, report the problem to supervisor so appropriate repair action can be taken. Ensure that necessary repair work is completed and the well is returned to production in a timely manner. Do not attempt to make repairs to leased vehicles. If an issue arises, notify your supervisor.
    • Maintain cost effective operation of all production equipment and related facilities.
    • Learn to safely trouble shoot minor electrical problems on BHEP production systems.
  • Ensure that all assigned wells produce oil and gas in optimum economical quantities.
    • Gauge all production tanks on the first day of each month, unless the first day falls on a weekend or a BHC observed holiday, as well as at least once weekly, depending on each wells’ situation. Also, back gauge tanks on the day following an oil sale. As requested on new wells or recent reworks, gauge every day.
    • Conduct regular, annual production tests on multiple-well tank batteries. Emphasize accurate, consistent quality tests.
    • Witness and verify crude purchaser gauges and tests, ensuring accuracy of all run tickets.
    • Learn the optimum operation & how to adjust settings of the D-Jax “Penny Pincher” pump-off controllers, used on every electrically powered well in Finn Field. Document & date all changes to settings on card that is in each Penny Pincher unit. Proper settings at Penny Pinchers assures maximum efficiency of production.
  • Complete all necessary reports in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
    • Enter data into “Mobile Epiphany” app as often as possible for each well, including any and all pertinent information, in the comments box, that is relevant to the supervisor or anyone that may be relief pumping. For new wells, recent reworks, or unidentified stimulation, provide production information as requested. All gauge reports should contain sufficient information and comments to be self-explanatory.
    • Maintain complete chronological records of all tank seals for wells on federal leases, documented in the Mobile Epiphany app.
    • Fill out well test reports on multiple-well tank batteries as requested by the production analyst. Check tests for accuracy (i.e. sum of tests should mirror total battery production).
    • Complete all required reports such as SPCC reports, RICE forms, etc., in a timely & accurate manner.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment.
    • Keep all well locations and equipment clean, oil free, litter free, and aesthetically pleasing.
    • Keep weeds cut, fences repaired and tank dikes in repair for all well locations, tank batteries and water disposal pits. If maintenance is required that is above & beyond your scope, report to supervisor.
    • Drag roads and locations (as weather conditions and time permit) to reduce maintenance costs and keep clear of weeds.
    • Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicle (and all BHEP vehicles utilized). Ensure that they are maintained in good working condition. Notify supervisor of any issue with your vehicle so that he may have it taken in to be inspected and/or serviced.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work toward the development of clear leadership qualities such as flexibility, cooperation, positive attitude, good judgement, digital, written and verbal communication skills, and professional conduct. Demonstrate a willingness to assist, train and guide others.
    • Be willing to assist with other pumpers as necessary, including but not limited to, assisting with gauging, opening valves following chemical treatments, and simple pumping, as situations necessitate.
    • Make suggestions to management to maintain the most efficient operations possible. Encourage other employees to do the same.
  • Providing relief support to the crude haulers is required.
  • Competently perform a variety of assigned tasks including hauling crude oil from BHEP’s operated wells, as well as other wells BHEP has contracted to haul within the Finn Field, to the Finn Station and hauling water to rework/completion operations.
    • Load oil from tanks located at BHEP operated wells, as well as other wells BHEP has contracted to haul within the Finn Field, and haul the oil to the Finn Treating Station. Unload the oil through the LACT (lease automatic custody transfer) meter. Gauge tanks properly before and after loading.
    • Catch samples of all loads as they are being unloaded at the Finn Station. Use the centrifuge and hydrometer to record the API gravity, oil percent, water percent and BS&W percent of each sample.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of one year as a Pumper I, or equivalent experience.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
SKILLS/ABILITY/OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Strong oral, digital and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics functions, pertaining to the ability to pro-rate a wells’ production & schedule a shipment of fluid at least a week in advance of tank reaching its “haul point” (The fluid level of a tank in which it has enough product for a crude truck to haul 180 bbls to the “Finn Station” for sale).
  • Ability to read and understand technical information such as instructions and equipment specifications.
  • Ability to make judgmental decisions with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to make routine public contact with contractors, service personnel and governing agencies.
  • Ability to use general purpose hand tools (wrenches, shovels, gas-powered trimmers, etc), supplied by BHEP.
  • Pickup truck for use in field, provided by BHEP.
  • Snowmobile (seasonal).
  • Handheld and/or laptop computer, provided by BHEP.
  • Two-way radios

CERTIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS:

  • Possess current first aid and CPR certification or, if a new employee, be able to obtain certification within one year from date of hire. Annual (or as required) recertification of First Aid/CPR will be supplied by BHEP.
  • Possess a valid DOT certified driver’s license. New employees must be able to obtain certification within six months of their hire date.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Overtime may be required as deemed necessary by BHEP to meet job objectives or other assigned duties. In addition, the employee may be scheduled to work nights, weekends or holidays.
  • PPE is a requirement for employment. BHEP will supply all PPE for employees, including but not limited to head/face protection, eye/hearing protection, safety gloves, etc. BHEP will also supply a reasonable amount of “FR” clothing, the industry standard, including shirts, jeans, outerwear, etc. BHEP supplies up to $200/2 years for OSHA approved steel toe boots.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

You must be able to perform the requirements of this position, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Physically fit enough to comfortably climb up & down stairs, with handrails, measuring 12’ in height, up to 60 times per day, 2 times a week.
  • Physically fit enough to grease & lube over 60 pumping units, motors, etc., as often as required.
  • Safely operate company provided pickup.
